We started early today, 7:30am. After registration, Lizzie had a chest x-ray. Then it was off to get her blood drawn. In the past this has been a most difficult process, especially finding a good vein. Even though it was another traumatic experience for Lizzie today, our request for a "veteran" staff member was answered and the blood was drawn very quickly. Next was a sedated echo scan. After getting her to reluctantly swallow sedatives, she soon fell asleep and had a very long and still echo (ultrasound) of her heart. She woke up, tried to gain her bearings, and had a chance to feed. Later, Dr. Del Nido (surgeon) and Dr. Marx (cardiologist) consulted with us about tomorrow's surgery. They still describe her as a complex case, but are very hopeful about the upcoming procedure.
Grandparents and other relatives arrived today and spent time with us at the hospital and at the Yawkey House. We ended the day by giving Lizzie a bath with a special pre-op scrubber sponge.
We will arrive at the hospital at 9:30am, with surgery soon after. The surgery itself will last 4-5 hours. We won't see Lizzie until after 5pm. Please pray with us for God's blessing of a successful procedure and for Lizzie's protection during the cardio-pulmonary bypass.

PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY! May this one be a birthday that you can always say you saw God at work!
Father God, creator, sustainer of all, at this very moment and throughout the next few hours and days, I pray your care for baby Lizzie and your grace and peace for Kristen and Gary. As you work in this situation I pray you will be glorified, that many will see and wonder at the faith and love displayed through these who love you. Thank you that you are our God and you do all things well.
